Always use Insulina Humana Novolin N exactly as instructed by the physician or pharmacist. Check with the physician or pharmacist if not sure.

Based on the patient's lifestyle and the results of blood sugar (glucose) tests, the physician will: Determine how much Insulina Humana Novolin N/day the patient will need; advise when to check blood sugar level and whether the patient needs to carry out urine tests; advise when it is needed to inject a higher or lower dose of Insulina Humana Novolin N.

Many factors may influence the blood sugar level. The patient should know these factors so that the patient is able to react correctly to changes in blood sugar level and to prevent it from becoming too high or too low.

If the patient has injected too much Insulina Humana Novolin N, blood sugar level may become too low. Check blood sugar frequently. In general, to prevent hypoglycemia, the patient must eat more food and monitor blood sugar.

Missed Dose: If the patient has missed a dose of Insulina Humana Novolin N or has not injected enough insulin, blood sugar level may become too high. Check blood sugar frequently.

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

Discontinuation: If the patient stop using Insulina Humana Novolin N, this could lead to severe hyperglycemia and ketoacidosis. Do not stop Insulina Humana Novolin N without informing the physician, who will instruct the patient on what is needed to be done.

Administration: Insulina Humana Novolin N is injected under the skin 45-60 min before a meal.

Some medicines cause changes in the blood sugar level (decrease, increase or both depending on the situation). In each case, it may be necessary to adjust insulin dose to avoid blood sugar levels that are either too low or too high. Be careful when starting or stopping another medicine.

Medicines that may cause blood sugar level to fall (hypoglycemia) include: All other medicines to treat diabetes, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (used to treat certain heart conditions or high blood pressure), disopyramide (used to treat certain heart conditions), fluoxetine (used to treat depression), fibrates (used to lower high levels of blood lipids), monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) (used to treat depression), pentoxifylline, propoxyphene, salicylates (eg, aspirin, used to relieve pain and lower fever), sulfonamide antibiotics.

Medicines that may cause blood sugar level to rise (hyperglycemia) include: Corticosteroids (eg, 'cortisone' used to treat inflammation), danazol (medicine acting on ovulation), diazoxide (used to treat high blood pressure), diuretics (treat high blood pressure or excessive fluid retention), glucagon (pancreas hormone used to treat severe hypoglycemia), isoniazid (used to treat tuberculosis), estrogens and progestogens (eg, in the contraceptive pill used for birth control), phenothiazine derivatives (treat psychiatric disorders), somatropin (growth hormone), sympathomimetic medicines [eg, epinephrine (adrenaline), salbutamol, terbutaline used to treat asthma], thyroid hormones (treat the thyroid gland disorders), protease inhibitors [treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)], atypical antipsychotic medicines (eg, olanzapine and clozapine).

Blood sugar level may either rise or fall if the patient takes: β-blockers (treat high blood pressure), clonidine (treat high blood pressure), lithium salts (treat psychiatric disorders).

Pentamidine (treat some infections caused by parasites) may cause hypoglycemia which may sometimes be followed by hyperglycemia.

β-blockers eg, other sympatholytic medicines (eg, clonidine, guanethidine and reserpine) may weaken or suppress entirely the first warning symptoms which help to recognize a hypoglycemia.

Insulina Humana Novolin N with Alcohol: Blood sugar levels may either rise or fall if alcohol is taken.
